Apache is the latest incarnation of HTTP server on IBM i. What can you do with Apache? Well, since Apache is so efficient in serving up static resources and resources passed to it from CGI programs, you can leverage it for many things. I use it primarily as a reverse proxy for the plethora of programs, pages, and other plumbing in my Web apps (nice alliteration, eh?).
Sorry, but there is no modernization silver bullet. Migrating does not equal modernization.

Not all ERP migrations fail. But many do. I’d even say the majority do...and that’s what Gartner says too. In their estimation, 75 percent of all ERP projects fail. In a bold prediction a couple years ago, they estimated that 90 percent of all ERP cloud projects, what they call “postmodern application integration strategies,” would fail between 2016 and 2018. More specifically, “Gartner predicts that through 2018, 90 percent of organizations will lack a postmodern application integration strategy and execution ability, resulting in integration disorder, greater complexity, and cost.”
IBM i Access Client Solutions’ requirement for LAN console may finally force tension for change.

A few short years ago, IBM released Access Client Solutions (ACS): a lightweight, Java-based application for basic user necessities like 5250 emulation and spooled file management. It had a link to the web-based Navigator for i product, data transfer, plus the ability to do 5250 console and access a virtual control panel. It also provided a link to the Hardware Management Console (HMC) web interface…so technically two features were links. Check out one of the original how-to videos describing what it did. Very bare bones compared to what the product does now. But you have to start somewhere.
