Kyndryl, the independent public company that will be created following the separation of IBM's Managed Infrastructure Services business, today announced its global leadership model to bring its mission-critical technical expertise to a broader set of core digital technology environments.

These announcements are important milestones that will prepare Kyndryl for future success – nothing will change with the IBM Global Technology Services business until after responsibility passes to the Kyndryl team.  IBM remains on track to complete the spin-off by the end of the year.

IBM today announced key members of the executive team to lead the independent company that will be created following the previously announced separation of IBM’s Managed Infrastructure Services business (“NewCo”).

The leadership appointments represent an important step toward establishing an independent NewCo, which will be a global leader in the management and modernization of IT infrastructure.  The company’s new name will be announced in the coming months, and the separation is expected to occur by the end of 2021.

Designed to offer a platform to meet the unique needs of enterprise hybrid cloud computing, the IBM POWER10 processor uses a design focused on energy efficiency and performance in a 7nm form factor with an expected improvement of up to 3x greater processor energy efficiency, workload capacity, and container density than the IBM POWER9 processor.

IBM today announced it has built Pangea III, the world's most powerful  commercial supercomputer for Total, a supermajor global energy company operating in more than 130 countries. The new IBM POWER9-based supercomputer will help Total more accurately locate new resources and better assess the potential associated revenue opportunities. In addition, according to Total Pangea III requires 1.5 Megawatts, compared to 4.5 MW for its predecessor system. Combined with the increased performance of Pangea III, Total has reported that they have observed that the new system uses less than 10% the energy consumption per petaflop as its predecessor.

Only Manufacturer with Multiple Systems in Top Ten of Top500 and Green500, Debuts World's Most Powerful Commercial Supercomputer
 
IBM today announced that it is the only vendor to have multiple systems in the Top 10 of the semi-annual Top500 and Green500 supercomputer lists. This includes the US Dept of Energy's Summit and Sierra supercomputers, the overall number one and number two most powerful supercomputers in the world, along with the Lassen Supercomputer built for Lawrence Livermore National Labs. IBM also teamed with Total, a global oil producer, for the world's most powerful commercial supercomputer that debuted on the Top500 list at #11.
