IBM Security today announced the results of a global survey that examines the critical role of cybersecurity incident responders at a time when the physical and digital worlds are increasingly converging. The study, released during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, found that incident responders surveyed – the frontline responders to cyberattacks – are primarily driven by a strong sense of duty to protect others; a responsibility that's increasingly challenged by the surge of disruptive attacks, from the proliferation of ransomware attacks to the recent rise of wiper malware.

When investing in industrial IoT that connects and automates machines, 45% of manufacturing executives expect higher efficiency. One way to address these challenges is by adopting private 5G networks.

During the National HBCU Week Conference convened by the U.S. Department of Education and the White House, IBM announced its collaboration with 20 Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) to help them establish Cybersecurity Leadership Centers.

With 500,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the U.S., the need for expertise is critical: According to a recent IBM Security study, insufficiently staffed organizations average $550,000 more in breach costs than those that state they are sufficiently staffed.

IBM today unveiled the next generation of its LinuxONE server, a highly scalable Linux and Kubernetes-based platform, designed to deliver scalability to support thousands of workloads in the footprint of a single system. IBM LinuxONE Emperor 4 features capabilities that can reduce clients’ energy consumption. For example, consolidating Linux workloads on five IBM LinuxONE Emperor 4 systems instead of running them on compared x86 servers under similar conditions can reduce energy consumption by 75%, space by 50%, and the CO2e footprint by over 850 metric tons annually.

Speaking at the recent Billington Cybersecurity Summit, Jen Easterly, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), encouraged greater collaboration between government and industry, referring to the act of collaboration as the agency’s ‘superpower’. While her statement related directly to the U.S. government’s cybersecurity strategy and defenses, we agree that collaboration is a ‘superpower’.

As outlined in our March launch and June update, the IBM Ecosystem strategy in the federal market is built on the same principles: collaboration around R&D, collective and cross-functional engagement in new business pursuits, and co-creation of technology solutions to the federal government’s most complex challenges.
