Sonoa Systems, Inc., an innovative provider of appliances that offer simplicity, control and performance in Web 2.0 environments, has announced that it is working with IBM to provide the Info 2.0 Appliance, the first integrated offering which allows non-technical users to build new Web 2.0 applications while providing IT departments with enterprise-level control.

The Info 2.0 Appliance, which will be offered with the IBM Mashup Starter Kit, offers users quick, flexible access to web, intranet and corporate data to create enterprise mashups without compromising existing internal security policies.

Web 2.0 has led to a growing need for enterprise mashups -- web application hybrids that contain data and functionality from both internal and external sources. This includes conventional business data as well as public and personal, structured and unstructured information available to non-technical users, making it difficult for IT departments to respond to rapidly changing business requirements.

"The adoption of Web 2.0 technologies for the enterprise unleashes the power of information as a strategic asset," stated Arvind Krishna, vice president of Databases, Servers and IM Development Information Management for the IBM Software Group. "With the Info 2.0 Appliance, IBM's mashup software is combined with Sonoa Systems' technology to ensure that business users are creating Web 2.0 applications within a secure, efficient and scalable environment."

Utilizing the combined offerings from IBM and Sonoa Systems, users can combine information in new and innovative ways while ensuring that IT operations maintain enterprise-level control over governance policies and regulations. This allows all types of information to be extended and used as a service, and delivered to the people and applications that need it. In addition, providing these capabilities in an appliance form eliminates the cost and complexity of purchasing, integrating, and maintaining multiple software components hosted on multiple servers, thereby reducing the total cost of ownership.

"Sonoa Systems is focused on bringing the creativity of Web 2.0 to the enterprise while providing IT operational control," said Sonoa Systems CEO, Chet Kapoor. " IBM's work with Sonoa Systems as it's development partner for Info 2.0 validates not only the opportunity in this market, but also the success of Sonoa Systems' technology meeting the most advanced needs of enterprise customers."

About the Info 2.0 Appliance

The Info 2.0 Appliance gives IT operations the control they need to balance the creativity unleashed by the IBM Mashup Starter Kit. It utilizes a proxy-service approach to provide a centralized, consistent point of control that deploys rapidly and delivers high-performance capabilities. With no coding required, even non-technical users can immediately provision applications with easy-to-use configuration tools for rapid deployment. And it employs Sonoa Systems' hardware acceleration technology to deliver networking-level performance and throughput.

Sonoa Systems provides a single control point for IT to enforce security and operational policies, including:

  • Authentication, authorization, data protection, and credential mapping
  • Governance, logging, auditing, and compliance enforcement
  • SLA monitoring, rate limiting, load balancing and content-based routing
  • Fault isolation and management
