Practical RPG: A National Language Support Shortcut
National Language Support (NLS) is a huge part of the IBM i, and this is quick way to take advantage of it.
By Joe Pluta
The IBM midrange platform has always supported multiple languages, typically more consistently than the various devices we connected to it. I remember creating client/server applications for the Japanese market. The support on the IBM i was relatively easy to enable, but the support on the PCs (even the IBM-brand PCs) required jumping through a lot of hoops. But even on the IBM i, there are numerous moving parts, and this article shows you how to get to many of them in one easy step.

RPG Academy - Modernization: Tips to Avoid the Pains of Modernization
There’s no accurate map for a modernization initiative, so the best you can do is go into the “Here be dragons” part of it a little more prepared.
By Rafael Victória-Pereira
Modernization is usually a long and hard process, for which there’s no accurate map or magic formula. The best you can do is prepare for it and start the journey. People get excited about the gains of modernization but often ignore the pains.

What Most IBM i Shops Get Wrong About the IFS
Can you trust all of your users all of the time?
A typical end user receives 16 malicious emails each month, but only 17 percent of these phishing campaigns are reported to IT. Once an attack is underway, most organizations won’t discover the breach until six month later.
A staggering amount of damage can occur in that time. Despite these risks, 93 percent of organizations are leaving their IBM i systems vulnerable to cybercrime. In this on-demand webinar, IBM i security experts Robin Tatam and Sandi Moore will reveal:
- How phishing attacks are becoming more sophisticated
- Three little-known ways malicious programs can reach your IFS
- Why the IFS is IBM i’s “Typhoid Mary”
You’ll also learn why some of the most common malware solutions still leave IBM i systems vulnerable—and what you can do to protect your organization.
