Magic Software Enterprises Ltd. has inaugurated a series of technology-oriented programs delivered as "podcasts," or Internet-distributed audio programs, produced in cooperation with Cherry Hill, NJ-based Professional Podcasts LLC.

The first podcast program in the series features an interview with leading computer security expert Carol Woodbury. Woodbury is founder and president of SkyView Partners technology consulting firm based in Issaquah, WA. The firm specializes in security and compliance issues related to the IBM iSeries of midrange computers.

"Magic Software has been providing robust application development tools in the IBM iSeries product space for years," said David Wexler, director of corporate marketing for Magic Software. "As developers continue to re-engineer legacy applications to provide additional, sophisticated functionality like Web integration and modify those applications to comply with new industry regulations, we are conducting a broad outreach to familiarize them with the rich feature set available in our tools."

In the podcast for Magic Software—the first of a series of conversations about iSeries application development—Woodbury discusses regulatory and security compliance issues that software developers working in the iSeries' i5/OS operating system need to take into account in building new software applications for their clients.

"Magic's tools offer a great migration solution for developers working with older 'green screen' applications that need to be modernized," said Wexler. "We believe that podcasts can reach developers and business managers more conveniently on a schedule that fits their needs."

Magic Software's portfolio of application development environment tools include the iBOLT Integration Suite, a comprehensive application integration and business process management suite, and eDeveloper, a composite application development framework for any platform.

"We are very excited to be partnering with Professional Podcasts and Lubetkin Communications to take advantage of podcasting technology to reach prospective ISV partners and end-user clients," said Wexler. "Podcasting is especially effective for distributing technology news programming, because most software developers are busy and don't have the time or budge available to attend Webinars or conferences. They need information and news from us in a portable format."

The program is available for downloading and listening on computers or digital audio players from Magic Software's Website at Compliance Podcast. Visitors also can get information on how to "subscribe" to distribution of the podcast so that they receive future episodes in the series automatically. There is no charge for downloading or subscribing. The programs also are available at no charge to subscribers to the Apple iTunes Music store (http://www.itunes.com/), at the following URL: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=263526408.

"Using podcasting to provide application development news and information to its audiences demonstrates that Magic Software has a clear vision for best-practices integration of such new social media into business applications," said Steven L. Lubetkin, managing partner of Professional Podcasts and Lubetkin Communications. "Like Magic Software, other companies should understand that podcasts can provide clients and other constituencies mission-critical information conveniently, without tying those audiences to a less-flexible programming format like a conference call or a web stream, where busy and time-constrained participants must gather at a common time. Podcast listeners get the information they need—at a time when they want it."

Podcasts are digital audio or video recordings distributed using Internet technology. Visitors to an organization's Web site can download podcast programs for review on their desktop computers, or synchronize them with a portable digital media device. Software programs called "feed readers" or "podcatchers" allow users to "subscribe" to podcasts at no cost, and receive new programs in a podcast series automatically.
