  • SMTP Spam & V5R1

A few months ago, we had some hackers use our system to relay a bunch of spam. At that time, I learned about creating QTMSADRLST to control SMTP relay. That solved out problem....until today. Today we noticed a a bunch of weird messages on QSYSOPR and quickly determined that someone was using us again. I dug up my notes and looked to see if QTMSADRLST still existed - it did not, so I recreated and restarted the server. After restarting the server, QTMSADRLST was deleted! Since we are now on v5r1, I looked in the Information Center and it said to create QTMSADRLST. I then called IBM and they said that the Information Center is wrong and that relaying is now controlled by the ALWRLY parameter of the CHGSMTPA command. I changed it to *NONE and that solved our problem. So, add this to your list of things to check when you go to v5r1! Joe
