Absolutely yes. > In the SQL Documentation they, clearly, define > an indicator variable as 2b 0. That documentation is essentially compatible with RPG/400 which only has the B data type. For 2b 0, I use 5i 0. No problems. --buck

    Indicator variables

    Buck meant "For 4b 0, I use 5i 0" Or he meant "For 12b 0, I use 5i 0" I think this shows why 5i 0 is preferred. Chris

      Hi Chris, > Buck meant "For 4b 0, I use 5i 0" > Or he meant "For 1 2b 0, I use 5i 0" > > I think this shows why 5i 0 is preferred. Right on. I did indeed mean that I use 5i 0 where I used to have 1 2b 0 (which is 2b 0, obviously!) Thanks for posting the right information... and the humour. :-) --buck

        Indicator variables

I read, in a recent Bob Cozzi piece, that we should stay away from using the 'B' type numeric and use 'I' instead. The question is does this hold true for SQL indicator variables also? In the SQL Documentation they, clearly, define an indicator variable as 2b 0. Just wondering. Bill Barnes
