    Thanks for the input Birgitta. You're absolutely correct that SQLCODE is easier, but as you also point out SQLSTATE is the standard. One of the reasons to use SQL is standardization, and like it or not SQLSTATE is the standard, especially since SQLCODE was deprecated back in SQL-92. Most modern SQL texts I've read recommend using SQLSTATE. This article is designed to help you do that.
