Port 80 is the defualt port for HTTP (www) transactions. If you do not use the iseries as a web server, this should not affect you. Dave

Port 80
We have an application running on Websphere that is accessed both through the internet and through the intranet. I'm told it is a web application running on the HTTP Server. What he wants to do is close Port 80 and only allow port 443. Is it possible to restrict Port 80 thereby only allowing port 443 (SSL connection)? Or do we have to leave port 80 open because of the application? -

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this question but here goes. Our HIPPA Security person wants to close Port 80 on the iSeries. Is this a problem (we do run a websphere application from a vendor)? If so what are the ramifications?Comment

Port 80
TTBOMK port 443 is used for SSL Telnet applications. Perhaps it was meant for you to close port 23 which is unsecured TELNET. Most shops use the firewall to close port 23 to anything outside the internal LAN, but port 80 is generally opened to the public. It's surprising that any security person would want to close port 80 as port 80 is commonly used for most web traffic. For sensitive transactions, another port (usually over 1000) could be found to replace port 80. DaveComment
