  • Copying model PC to new ones

Our mill uses too much time by building up new PCs. In old days (DOS) it was possible to copy C: disk and get a equal PC. Now (Windows 95) we have not managed to get PC to run this way. Is there some trics or some program that makes a running copy? Matti Kujala HREF="http://www.ahlstrom.com/"> Ahlstrom Kauttua ltd. HREF="http://www.vn.fi/vn/um/finfo/findeng.html"> Finland

Sol Soloman; what a name. You are absolutely right: of the hundreds of millions of PCs I seriously doubt that two are alike. When you consider the constant stream of "versions" comingout of GATES and IBM, there is no way two PCs could beeven close to identical. Thanks Sol! We had a 7 PC group coming in (all equal). We built up one and loaded system to 6 other, installed first disk to each other () and copied D: to C:. Copies worked OK and saved us many hours. You are right about licences. Our company's top management has commanded us to have a licence for each program copy, so we have not to worry about extra cost. Matti Kujala HREF="http://www.ahlstrom.com/"> Ahlstrom Kauttua ltd. Alex, thanks so much for your information. Manuel Rivera On Tuesday, March 11, 1997, 07:28 PM, Alex Nubla wrote: Manuel: Get Dell or Toshiba. You can normally get Toshiba from 3rd party vendors. For Dell, call (800) 247-9752. You will not go wrong with any of the product. Things to look for: 1) Get an active matrix 2) Get at least 2.1 Gb of DASD 3) If you are running Windows '95 or Windows Nt 4.0 make sure you have at least 16 Mb of RAM. 4) Get at least a 6x CD Rom, Toshiba even makes 10x now. (Be reminded that DVD will be available at the last quarter of this year). 5) Make sure it has at least 2 Mb VRam (or EDO) for your video accelarator. 6) Get an PC Card that handles 10/100 Ethernet connectivity with 33.4 bps modem speed - 3-COM & US Robotics (Megahertz) makes one. 7) Make sure the battery is Lithium Ion. 8) Determine for yourself what mouse to use -- glidepoint, joystick or trackball. Toshiba uses joystick, Dell makes it in glidepoint or trackball. 9) Get at least 133 Mhz Pentium, if money is not an object - 166 10) Get the MMX Technology Chip if available. 11) Get Windows NT 4.0 Workstation installed as much as possible -- you will run into lesser headache than Windows '95. Check their web-sites: www.dell.com www.toshiba.com And Lastly: Prepare to spend at least $4000 from the sample configuration I gave you. Whatever you do, do not buy the following: Compaq (most of their drivers are not generic) and Nec (Packard Hell in Stealth Uniform). alex_nubla@msn.com as400wz
