I would appreciate information, and opinions, of a basic "How-To" book on FTP. The book must be AS/400 oriented. TIA, Dave

FTP Book
Cool Title About the AS/400 and Internet , SG24-4815-01 1996-11-12 http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg244815.html V4 TCP/IP for AS/400: More Cool Things Than Ever , SG24-5190-00 2000-03-13 http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg245190.html However, the hip-bone-connected-to-the-thigh-bone approach of the scripted 'AS/400 way' of handling error processing ( and aborting ) described and generally used is much inferior to a socket based approach. FTP Book
I have a couple basic articles on FTP coming up in MC. They're in reverse order.. the first is a tips article, and the next is a basics of FTP. FTP is pretty much the same on every platform. It's a very standardized protocol. Any FTP site on the net may also give some help. This is, of course, if you were referring to learning FTP commands, etc. Brad

FTP Book
David, There is the "TCP/IP Primer" available from MC publications. That's what I use. It gives examples of how to implement FTP via CL statements. I'm not sure, but I don't think that it is practical, or feasible to execute FTP statements from HLLs. If you are looking for a good AS/400 programmable front end to effectively handle FTP transactions, and handle the inherent security risks, ZMOD FTPClient is a good choice. For learning about the AS/400 implemention of FTP, I'd go with the "TCP/IP Primer". The FTP section is only about a chapter, but that's all one needs. I was pretty much an FTP idiot, but after reading that chapter, I was FTPing whole AS/400 software systems around the country and they worked in any state. Suffice it to say FTP isn't difficult. HTH

FTP Book
Here's another one to add to the list. I just found it so I can't vouch for the content but it does have some detail on the FTP sub-commands, which is what I'm currently looking for. http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/gg243442.html Trevor
