  • Consolidate Netware and NT Servers onto 1 AS/400?

We are looking at taking on a project to put, say 16-25 servers onto an AS/400 with INS cards for each one. Has anyone done this with multiple servers? If so, I am interested in how it went, gotchas, things to be aware of, etc. Thanks.

Consolidate Netware and NT Servers onto 1 AS/400?

This is a viable solution for the NT servers but not for the NetWare servers. Not only has IBM discontinued offering the Integration for Novell NetWare product (5769-SA3) on the IPCS/INS, but they are actually ***removing*** the support for running NetWare on the IPCS/INS from OS/400 with OS/400 V4R5. That's right. You will no longer be able to run it on the INS when you upgrade to V4R5. So if you have a NetWare on an IPCS/INS server installed on your AS/400, you are going to need to replace it when you upgrade that machine to OS/400 V4R5 or it may not work. So there's a migration obstacle to OS/400 V4R5 for shops that are currently running NetWare on the IPCS (are there a lot of them out there? Please show yourselves, if you're doing this). This was documented in IBM Software Announcement 200-035, IBM AS/400 Software Updates and Planning Information, that was released on March 7, 2000. We also wrote this up in the May/June 2000 issue of AS/400 Network Expert.
