  • Copying between NFS and IFS

From a PC (using Windows NT with the OMNI NFS-server), we export two different directories. These directories are mounted on the AS/400. Then we try, on the AS/400, to copy files between the 'imported' directories and a directory in the IFS. The following happens (using the AS/400 CPY command): 1. Copying files between the 'imported' directories works well. 2. Copying files from an 'imported' directory to a directory in the IFS does not work. Message CPFA0A2 is given: "Information passed to this operation was not valid." This a general message, but no other message is given to specify what went wrong. Surpisingly, opening an 'imported' text file on the AS/400 with the commands EDTF or CPYFRMSTMF works well. Does anyone know how to solve this ? Theo Bos

Here is the complete msg text: Message . . . . : Information passed to this operation was not valid. Cause . . . . . : Possible causes: --The operation could not use the data passed to it. --A name may not be correct. --Directory was expected, but a file was specified. --File was expected, but a directory was specified. --The function requested is not supported by the file system. Recovery . . . : Check the data passed to determine the cause of the problem. Correct the error and retry the operation. Technical description . . . . . . . . : If you were attempting an operation on a user-defined file system (UDFS), the name may have been incorrect. A user-defined file system name must be of the form: /dev/qaspXX/udfs_name.udfs where XX is one of the valid Auxiliary Storage Pool (ASP) numbers on the system, and udfs_name is the name of the user-defined file system. I don't know if this will help. bobh
