  • Is it realistic to run an AS/400 server with ISDN connection?

I would really appreciate any feedback from anyone on this. Pro/con. Here is the scenario: We have an older AS/400 (9402) that presently has 8-10 concurrent remote connections via leased lines. The remote offices have twinax CRTs and printers with a 5394 controller. (eventually we will use PC's) We would like to use the IBM HTTP and TCP/IP software to run a web server, using a 128K ISDN line. Remote offices will connect via their dial-up internet access account, then connect with Client Access Express. We are on release V4R4. Is this a viable option, or do we need to go with frame relay? We only have green screen apps. No graphics. Thanks in advance for your time. Colin

A previous employer of mine supported about 10 dial-up connections over a 56K Frame Relay line. It was adequate for interactive work, but insufficient after users discovered how to send spooled files over the line. The interactive work suffered as large batches of spooled files were sent.
