Yes - I ran ENDTCPSVR *DNS then STRTCPSVR *DNS. I have also tried specifying an external DNS server on the CHTCPDMN which didn't make any diffrence either. -

I want to get our AS400 to use a DNS server. Ping works for any local or internet address but I get "Unknown Host, www......." whenever I try to ping a name. I have set the address of the DNS server using CHGTCPDMN but it makes no difference. What other settings do I need to use. I have successfully used a PC running Windows connected to the same LAN using the same DNS server to Ping the same names that the AS400 can't find, so that eliminates any other network components as a possible cause. If you are running Windows 98 or higher, you may have a problem with not having a HOSTS. File in your windows subd. Their should be a SAM file for HOSTS.SAM, may not be this problem at all but might be.Comment
