    IFS Information

Where do I find information on the IFS? I was under the impression it was just a fancy name for the folder system on the 400, but something I read recently gave me the impression it was different. We want to copy files from our NT server to the 400 and possibly eliminate the NT. Is it as simple as copy and paste to a folder on the 400? How do we handle long file name? We are on V4R4 and as you can see, we are a novice in this area. Ken

      IFS Information

Ken, Some of the best documentation for IFS files is in the Unix API manual. That documentation explains authority and the various file systems. Moving data to the iSeries IFS from NT can be as simple as starting the network file server using Client Access Express, mapping a drive to an IFS directory, and using drag and drop to move your content.
