  • How to Secure any Library from Backup?

We have a Data Library in our AS/400 running OS/400 V3R7. We need to protect this Library from All Types Users even we do not like to give its backup authority (SavSys) to any user. But we also have to take backup on Tape Cartridges of our some other important Libraries on Daily Basis. Normally the backups of these Libraries are taken by QSysOpt who has the authority of All Objects. He was alloted this authority only to take BackUp of different libraires on Tape using SavSys Command. Qestion: Pls. let us know that can we prevent any library to take backup from the Access of any User including QSysOpt? Thanks Imran A ShahDHCL35-A, Empress Rd,LahorePakistan imran@dhcl.brain.net.pk

The answer depends on how widespread special authorities are. any user with *ALLOBJ or *SAVSYS special authority will be able to see and backup your library. Sorry, that's just the way it is. You could create a CL program that backs up all the libraries except the one in question. Then create a user profile that has *SAVSYS authority. Make this profile the owner of your CL program, and then give your system operator the rights to use the program. If no one else has *ALLOBJ or *SAVSYS, then your library is safe.
