Yes its possible. I done the same thing a few years back useing duptap. Now this will only work if you have both tape drives on the same machine. Buddy

Do you have another AS400 their also? If so another way could be restore tape contents to a diffrent lib of course. Then do a savlib to a *savf. SNADS it over to the other AS400 to save it their. Without 2 tape drives its a pain to do but it could be done.Comment

Hi, We have apx. 16 sets of full system backups (we did it once a month + we have a few yearly ones) (they contain apx. 16 3490E's each) and would like to know if anyone out there has had any experience or used a service that was able to do this for them. We would like to have each set of 16 tapes to be transferred onto a single 8mm tape if possible so that we can get rid of our 3490 E tape drive. 1st of all....is this possible. 2nd...has anyone ever had any experience w/ this sort of situation.Comment

If you call your local IBM harware engineer, they may be able to offer there machines to use if they have the tape drives. This is what one of my clients did to convert 8mm to 1/4 inch. If you are using a service for storing your backup tapes they may be able to supply or suggest a company that could provide this service. Since the tapes represent full system backups, Unless you bypass system libs/objects/DLO and only consentrate on the user libs to do a restore and send to the As400 with the 8mm tape, this would not work.Comment
