  • Tape conversions for CISC-RISC conversion

Perhaps you can not justify such an expensive drive for the 270, but by the same token you may be able to justify a QIC drive for the F45. QIC drives, particularly used QIC drives are dirt cheap. You could install one on the F45 for the purposes of the conversion, and the cost would be easily justified. Dave

That sounds like a great idea. One question - how do I attach the QIC drive to the F45? Can we LAN-attach it, or does it have to be Bus/Tag? Twinax would be ok as well. Thanks.

Upgrading from an F45 (w/3490E-C11) to 270 (w/4586 1/4" tape). Since we won't need our 3490 anymore (and can't justify a $23K tape drive for a $27K box), we need to get our data from one machine to the other: a) Can we convert 3490 to 1/4" format for transfer? b) Can we convert 3490 to CD and use that for transfer? Thanks.

You can have the QIC drive fitted internally. Dave
