Vision Solutions has announced the GA release of ORION Solutions 6.0, a high availability and disaster recovery solution already serving numerous top companies throughout the world. Built to provide flexibility, performance and ease of use required by customers with enterprise-class environments, ORION Solutions 6.0 efficiently replicates business applications in real-time and maintains a remote role-swap-ready recovery system.

"ORION Solutions 6.0 adds tremendous enhancements to overall performance and flexibility," says Alan Arnold, Vision Solutions chief technology officer and executive vice president. "This release represents our most significant improvement to date regarding operations, monitoring functions, and the high availability management interface-these technology breakthroughs provide meaningful, real-world benefits."

Targeted for the enterprise market, ORION Solutions 6.0 is already installed with selected customers and has successfully completed beta testing in advance of the June general-availability (GA) release.

"We recently used ORION Solutions 6.0 to role swap more than 400 customer databases to IBM's Power6 systems," says Julia Nelson, Railcar Management, LLC's senior systems engineer and longtime user of ORION. "The software's new groundbreaking features, especially the automated role-swap procedures, emphasize Vision's commitment to continually enhance and support their powerful product."

Major ORION Solutions 6.0 features and benefits include:

Improved Role Swap Process allowing for customization and tighter integration. The new one-button automated role swap increases its ease and efficiency; also, the process now includes a real-time monitor displaying up-to-the-second status throughout role-swap procedures. "ORION Solutions 6.0 also comes with a pre-configured template used to verify if the system is role-swap-ready," says John Dunn, senior product manager for Vision Solutions. "This gives customers confidence they are ready for recovery in the event of an unplanned production system failure. And the new customization features allow users to insert their own logic at various points in the role-swap procedure providing enhanced flexibility."

Improved ease-of-use enhancements dramatically improve overall usability and effectiveness. The new menu structure allows object and data replication to be configured together. The enhanced Navigator interface is now available as a separate optional product and provides an enterprise-class dashboard that allows easy monitoring of multiple systems from a single screen.

Performance enhancements to meet the growing demands of high-volume enterprise environments. ORION Solutions 6.0 supports IBM's newer transactions which greatly minimize bottlenecks by improving apply rates in high-volume interactive environments. The product's performance cache and improved small commit cycle processing also greatly benefit customers' enterprise-HA environments.

"ORION Solutions 6.0 demonstrates our commitment to the products' diverse customer set," adds Henry Martinez, Vision Solutions' senior vice president of engineering. "An impressive stream of new innovations-including nearly 50 new functions-are continuously incorporated into all of our HA offerings as we continue to deliver and support the best products for all of our customers unique data protection and recovery needs."

ORION Solutions 6.0 supports the latest version of IBM i 6.1 (formerly i5/OS). The software's many enhancements add flexibility and ease-of-use to IBM's powerful operating environment.
