Sybase, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure, mobile software, and mobile services, announced that several hundred new customers worldwide have signed up for Sybase IQ analytics server, a market leader in column-oriented database, in the last year.

On the heels of Sybase's record-breaking revenue year where it reached the billion-dollar mark, Sybase IQ is gathering momentum across the globe by adding to its more than 1,200 existing customers-and showing tremendous growth in emerging markets, the company said.

"After years of development and gradual customer base growth, Sybase IQ has lately emerged as an important and growing analytic database technology," said Carl Olofson vice president of information management and data integration research at IDC. "The column-oriented database concept is gaining more and more traction in the marketplace, and pioneer Sybase IQ has a huge lead in this area, as evidenced by Sybase's impressive report that the product has accumulated over 1,200 customers."

Customers report that they are shifting from traditional database solutions in favor of innovative data warehouse solutions based on a column-oriented architecture in order to address performance issues and support business growth. In some cases, the performance delta between the old and new architecture is 100-fold, raising the potential for dramatically different ways of thinking about data-intensive businesses. Sybase IQ supports massive amounts of data (including unstructured data) and performs lightning-quick complex ad hoc queries at a significantly lower cost than competitors, the company says.

Korea-based Woori Investment & Securities, a Teradata customer since 2002, said: "Last year, we started a ‘Next Generation System' project and looked to Sybase IQ for an expanded enterprise data warehouse system. After benchmark tests against IBM DB2, we chose Sybase for its superior query functionality and TCO."

Sybase IQ, highly optimized for analytics, helps organizations drive the most demanding business intelligence applications such as market data analysis, customer and operations analysis, fraud detection, risk insight and a range of revenue-producing services based on analytics. The following companies are among the hundreds of new customers worldwide who have chosen Sybase IQ to open new business possibilities through greater intelligence: CopperKey, Customer Solutions Online, Dexia BIL, Experian Integrated Marketing, Epsilon, Garden Ridge, ICICI Bank, INEGI, ITG, Korea Exchange Bank, Taiwan Mobile, Woori.

"As the National Census Bureau of Mexico, we gather, analyze and deliver very comprehensive data to our business users," said Ignacio Trejo at INEGI. "We purchased Sybase IQ for its enhanced analytics performance when performing high speed, complex queries against our large database."

"Sybase IQ truly changes the game for our customers. They can achieve analytics feats they never dreamed possible with ordinary databases," said Kathleen Schaub, vice president of product marketing at Sybase. "Sybase IQ is especially suited for organizations with extreme analytics requirements such as analytics service providers, financial services and insurance companies. Unbeatable price/performance is why so many customers all over the world are switching to Sybase IQ."

Organizations with very large data warehouses benefit from the significant reduction in hardware and energy costs due to Sybase IQ's compression capability. In a recent independent benchmark on a world's record one petabyte of raw data, Sybase IQ compressed data 85 percent resulting in a "green" data environment with 90 percent less CO2 emissions over the data warehouse's life time. http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1054011
