Q: Are there any naming considerations for network servers when using LANServer/400?
A: Network server descriptions specified to go online at initial program load (IPL) start one at a time, in alphabetical order.
The domain controller network server must be active for the backup domain controllers and additional servers to become active. You can check the status of a server with the Work with Network Server Status (WRKNWSSTS) command. If you specify your network server descriptions to go online at IPL, you should consider naming your domain controller network server so that it will get varied on before any other network servers in your AS/400 system. This way, all of your network servers will probably be active by the time the AS/400 completes its IPL.
If you do not want your network server descriptions to go online at IPL, you can change the status of a server with the Change Network Server Description (CHGNWSD) command.
