Vision Solutions announced significant enhancements today to its Vision Cluster1 product, the company's flagship enterprise cluster management solution for System i.

Developed in close cooperation with IBM, Vision Cluster1 is the industry's first solution to extend the reach of IBM HASM (High Availability Solution Manager) capabilities beyond two-nodes and support advanced IBM technologies such as switched disk, cross-site mirroring (geographic mirroring as well as IBM's SAN-based solutions including metro mirroring and global mirroring) and cluster services, noted Vision. Cluster1 integrates these advanced IBM technologies with logical replication solutions to provide true enterprise class high availability and disaster recovery protection, the company said.

"Built on a close development relationship with IBM, these fault-tolerant solutions extend IBM's latest technologies with Vision's award-winning software," says Alan Arnold, Vision Solutions executive vice president and chief technology officer. "This collaboration and bundled offering set a new precedence of flexibility and fault tolerance within our industry, protecting the most demanding high availability environments with built-in autonomics and relative simplicity," he said.

Vision Cluster1 provides enhanced monitoring and autonomic capabilities that enable customers to more easily manage complex enterprise environments and meet aggressive RTOs and RPOs, the company said. When bundled with Vision's logical replication solutions, customers can benefit from an improved level of protection, according to Vision. Vision Cluster1 includes one-button switch capabilities that work with or without a logical replication solution. (If the solution is being used to protect complex cluster topologies, Vision recommends it be deployed by one of the company's certified service providers.) Cluster1 is backed by certified 24/7 service and support; and the company notes that its integrated offerings keep the world's most valuable System i environments highly available.

As both a Vision Solutions and IBM customer, Cabela's (a leading sporting-goods chain), has an extensive high availability environment deployed across numerous systems. The company utilizes Vision's Cluster1 to simplify monitoring, management, and control of its 24/7 environment.

"Vision Solutions and IBM are vital to our high availability plan," says Cabela's senior information systems specialist, Steve Treinen. "We have been extremely happy with the product as it has matured to handle systems of our size."

Market requirements for these integrated solutions have been established by a growing list of customers implementing IBM and Vision's integrated availability solutions. These offerings are capable of delivering the level of usability, flexibility and fault tolerance required by many of today's competing businesses.

"IBM continues to find value in the investment and support that Vision Solutions brings to our business and mutual customers," said Scott Handy, vice president of worldwide marketing and strategy, IBM Power Systems. "We have enjoyed a long, collaborative relationship with Vision."
